Most of us are aware that building inspectors look for things that don’t appear to be in order, or that there is no reason for them to exist in the first place. The job of a building inspector, after all, is to determine the health and safety of their clients, and how well a property holds up under their watch. In addition, building inspectors must be able to provide their clients with a copy of the building inspection report.
If you have ever been given a copy of a building inspection report, you may be surprised to find that the information it provides isn’t all that accurate. This is because it was built without taking into account something called “the cost of a building inspection report.”
A typical building inspection will usually consist of all of the following components:
- The general condition of the exterior walls. The outside of the home is typically not inspected during a standard house inspection. This is because it would be too costly to allow the inspector to do an inspection, and then deal with the after-effects afterwards.
- The external walls of the home are only being evaluated if they are in distress. Buildings constructed during the industrial revolution typically had to allow for a decrease in both the grade of the exterior wall and the strength of the interior wall.
- Structural Assessment: This inspection is performed by inspecting the foundation of the home. All systems and structures connected to the foundation are measured. This includes any foundation columns that are visible from the exterior.
- Insulation Inspection: It is very common for companies to make assumptions about the insulation they have seen, especially if the home has been constructed using plastic foam board insulation. In fact, it is widely believed that the plastic foam board is bad insulation.
- Basement Flooring Inspection: The basement floor is typically assessed at a surface level. However, if there is water present, the floor will be removed and the underlayment (board) evaluated.
- Fire Test: Sometimes a building inspector will do a fire test on the home that was being inspected. This will include an evaluation of all of the connections between the various systems in the home, as well as the performance of those systems in the event of a fire.
This cost of a building inspection report provides an insight into how little it costs to hire someone to come in and inspect your home. These inspections are an important part of the safety process, but they are also extremely expensive. In many cases, these inspections can take hours or days or require the entire home to be inspected and tested, or both.
By doing your own construction, and reducing the amount of money spent on professional inspections, you can save yourself hundreds of dollars every year. Instead of spending all of your time and money on this process, you can save by creating the homes that you want without having to worry about a professional coming to your home. Because of this, many people are choosing to build their own homes.
As you can see, there are many reasons why a person would want to compare the cost of a building inspection report, versus the cost of a professional inspection. It is much more affordable, as well as more effective.
